What is Paracord?
It is highly versatile nylon cord, comprising of a flexible outer braided wrapper, holding seven, strong, 2-ply nylon cords inside. It has a breaking strain of 550 pounds and is also known as 550 Parachute cord. It is;
Strong; Durable; Lightweight; Water & mildew resistant; Quick drying
It was first introduced & used in parachute construction during WWII and it continues to be used by the military & is now available to civilians. It was even used by astronauts to repair the Hubble Telescope in Space, during the second Space Shuttle mission in 1997
The Paracord used to make my survival bracelets is manufactured in the USA by an approved Government Contractor. It is formally classed as “Type III Commercial, 7 strand 550lb Paracord”. I go across to The States to get it too!
Paracord is a very useful thing to carry when doing pretty much anything outdoors. A use can always be found for it during many an activity, from Hunting to Camping, from Fishing to Biking, from Bush-crafting to just Travelling.
Potential uses include;
Tying knots; Building a shelter; Crafts; Securing a tent; Securing a tarp between trees; Hanging a tool from your belt; Secure an item to the outside of your pack; Tourniquet in a first aid situation; Secure a splint; Emergency belt; Emergency shoe laces; Use the inner core as sewing thread; Hang a tool around your neck; Hang something from a tree; Use to make traps and snares; Replacing draw strings in packs and bags; Securing a flag; Keep rolled up items, like a bed roll, secured; Weave into a hammock; Tie objects such as poles together for easier transport; Braid / twist into a rope; Bundle cables or rope together; Hang up a clothes line; Hang a bear bag from a tree; Use the inner strands as dental floss; Emergency pet leash; Emergency pet collar; Build a bow drill; Use inner strands as fishing line; Adding a loop to a tool; Secure gear to a vehicle……
Making it a habit to wear a survival bracelet during outdoor activities, will mean that you will always be prepared with durable cord, for both emergency and non-emergency situations alike.
A great idea to give as a gift to the outdoorsman or woman that you know!
Our ParaFUN Kits contain 6 lengths of Paracord (each one is a minimum of 9 feet long) and 7 buckles, so kids or in fact anyone who likes making things and being crafty, can tie 6 of their very own survival bracelets! Maybe the crafter wants to be an entrepreneur and sell the finished bracelets to family & friends, make them to give as gifts at Christmas or simply just tie them all for personal use?!
In any case, a ParaFUN Kit is a unique gift to give to someone you love! Maybe they’ll make one for you in return?!
